FBM means you’re the one doing the fulfillment storage, packing, shipping labels, carrier pickups, all of it. You still sell on Amazon, but you’re running the delivery side yourself (or through your own warehouse/3PL).
The upside is control: you decide how things are packed, what inserts go in the box, and which shipping options you use. FBM can also be the smarter choice when FBA fees would eat your margin—like oversized products, slow-moving inventory, or anything that needs special handling.
If you’re selling fragile handmade glass ornaments, for example, FBM lets you pack them the way you trust, not the way a warehouse line might.
- More control over packaging and shipping choices
- Often better for oversized, fragile, or low-velocity items
- You own the customer experience end-to-end
- Late shipments and weak tracking can hurt metrics fast
